Pulaski County Facing $210,000 Increase in Health Insurance Costs

Pulaski County’s annual health insurance bill could be going up by more than $200,000, following a sharp increase in claims. Steve Gregory with Shepherd Insurance told the county commissioners last week that the plan hasn’t been running well. Cigna initially wanted to raise the cost by almost 44 percent but they negotiated it down to less than 20 percent.

The Pulaski County Council still hasn’t made any decisions about reconfiguring its local income taxes, but members did agree last week to keep thinking about some options. President Jay Sullivan reminded the rest of the council that the county will have to come up with additional revenue, since a special local income tax is scheduled to expire at the end of 2020.

Pulaski Council Approves Additional Appropriation for Courthouse Elevator Project

The Pulaski County Council has given its permission to pay the final bills from the courthouse elevator replacement, more than a year after the work was completed. The county council voted five-to-one last week to finalize a series of additional appropriations. That included almost $57,000 for the elevator work.

Pulaski Council Considers Additional Appropriation for Last Year’s Elevator Replacement

The Pulaski County Courthouse elevator was completed almost a year ago, but the county council is still being asked to consider funding arrangements. An additional appropriation request for almost $57,000 was presented Tuesday for council members’ consideration. Council Member Kathi Thompson voiced concern, noting that the money has already been spent, even though the council is just now being asked for permission to spend it.

Pulaski County Commissioners Once Again Vote to Get Cyber Security Insurance

Cyber security insurance will end up costing Pulaski County more than double what was originally thought. Back in August, the county commissioners voted to move forward with a policy from EMC Insurance, at a cost of just over $4,100 a year. But during last week’s meeting, insurance agent Gene Timm explained that the company would not provide standalone coverage.

Microfilm Department, CDC Project Coordinator Remain Out of 2020 Pulaski County Budget

Two Pulaski County employees are set to lose their jobs, under the 2020 budget narrowly approved by the county council Monday. A motion to reinstate the Community Development Commission’s project coordinator position failed by a vote of four-to-three, despite CDC Executive Director Nathan Origer’s efforts to persuade council members and the apparent support of much of the audience.
