ISP Touts Success of Drug Take Back Event
The sixth Drug Enforcement Administration Drug Take Back Event resulted in the collection of 11.5 tons of unwanted medications being dropped off statewide. The Indiana State Police drop-off locations contributed 1,875.5 pounds to that total.
Medaryville man arrested on drug charges
A Medaryville man who reportedly left the scene of a property damage accident faces drug charges after authorities caught up with him at a gas station there. The crash occurred on U.S. 421 at County Road 200 North in Pulaski County Monday night. Officers from the Medaryville Police Department and Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office found 32-year-old Russell Kevin Risner a short time later at the Family Express Station. His speech was slurred, his balance was poor and he failed several field sobriety tests, according the arrest report. He consented to a portable breath test and a blood draw and was taken to Pulaski Memorial Hospital. While there, a sheriff’s deputy reportedly found a yellow pill in Risner’s inside coat pocket. Hospital staff advise he tested positive for the presence of an anti-anxiety medication and marijuana. Formal charges are pending.
Pulaski County men arrested on drug charges
A pair of Pulaski County men are jailed on drug charges following an early morning traffic stop in Medaryville. Pulaski County Sheriff’s Deputies Mat Anderson and Tyler Campbell initially spotted the men staring them down as they walked into a local gas station just after 4 a.m. Anderson followed their car when they left and stopped them after they reportedly rolled through a nearby stop sign. The driver, 21-year-old Lance E. Nester said he had stopped at the station to get gas, but Anderson noted his gauge registered empty. Additionally, according to Anderson, the car smelled of marijuana. Nester consented to a search of the car, which turned up bags of marijuana, rolling papers and a smoking pipe. Nester and a passenger, 19-year-old Brandon Lee Smith of Medaryville, were arrested. Formal charges are pending.
Absentee Voting Begins Saturday
Absentee voting begins this Saturday, October 29th in Starke County. Voting will be conducted on the voting machines for the races in the City of Knox and the towns of North Judson and Hamlet in the Starke County Courthouse.
Voting will be from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 1:00-4:00 p.m. on Saturday, and Monday through Saturday next week. Absentee voting will also be available from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Monday, November 7th and Thursday, November 3rd from 1:00-4:00 p.m. and from 5:00-9:00 p.m.
Burglary Suspect Arrested In Pulaski County
The Pulaski County Sheriff Office arrested Kelly D. “Pete” Rowe on 1-12-11. He was arrested for Burglary a Class C Felony and Theft a Class D Felony. The arrest was the result of a month long investigation into a burglary in the area of C.R. 725 N. and 625 E. in Monterey. A utility trailer and four-wheel ATV have been recovered by Pulaski County Detectives Dave Walters and Scott Taylor.
The Pulaski County Sheriff Office is asking for help from anyone who may have knowledge of this burglary or anyone who might have purchased any items from “Pete” Rowe in the last couple of months. These items may be stolen. Several citizens in the Monterey area have already come forward to assist the Sheriff’s Office with returning the property to the elderly victims.
“Pete” Rowe is a male, white, 42 years old, 5’8”, and 178 Pounds. He has blondish brown hair and blue eyes.

Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department Receives Awards at OPO Banquet
Hundreds of state and local law enforcement agencies were recently honored at the 16th Annual Operation Pull Over Awards Banquet at the Ritz Charles in Carmel, Indiana. The Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office was among those agencies honored, taking home the award for Operation Pull Over, OPO Small Sheriff’s Department. The Sheriff’s Office also received a $1,000 Equipment Award to be used for the purchase of law enforcement equipment of their choice. The Sheriff’s Office has received awards in three of the past four years of participation in the Operation Pull Over Enforcement Programs.
Efforts conducted through Operation Pull Over rely on a dual strategy involving high-visibility enforcement and heightened public awareness aimed at deterring impaired and dangerous driving and increasing seat belt use.
