Pulaski County Mulls Frost Law Enforceability
Pulaski County is assembling information to enforce its own version of the Frost Law.
The law is already in effect in neighboring Starke County – which uses the ordinance as a way to prevent further damage to roadways. During Monday night’s Pulaski County Commissioners meeting, Highway Department Superintendent Terry Ruff discussed the ordinance.

N.J.-S.P Officials Clarify Referendum Intent
North Judson-San Pierre School Corporation officials say taxpayers within the corporation will see less of an increase in years two through seven if a general fund referendum is approved.
Language on the ballot has raised questions among voters. It states: “For the 7 calendar year or years immediately following the holding of the referendum, shall the North Judson-San Pierre School Corporation impose a property tax rate that does not exceed forty-seven and a half cents ($0.475) on each one hundred dollars ($100) of assessed valuation and that is in addition to all other property tax levies imposed by the North Judson-San Pierre School Corporation for the purpose of funding the general operation of the school corporation.” Continue reading
Time Change Prompts Safety Reminder
It’s time to “fall back in the fall.” Dayling Saving Time ends early tomorrowmorning, so be sure to set your clocks back one hour before going to bed Saturday night. State Fire Marshal Jim Greeson says it’s also a good time to change batteries in smoke alarms and remove dust from the front of the devices. Sen. Donnelly Highlights Federal Progress with Pain Prescription Abuse
U.S. Senator Joe Donnelly is touting efforts designed to curb prescription opioid abuse and drug addiction.
The Senator has been working for the past two years to find solutions: not only to Indiana’s addiction problems, but drug problems across the nation. Appearing via conference call with U.S. Surgeon General Vivek Murthy, Donnelly says training medical doctors with better prescribing practices could go a long way.

Indiana Prepares for First River Otter Trapping Season
River otters will be in season in Indiana for the first time in years starting this November.
The Indiana Department of Natural Resources says the otters were reintroduced about 20 years ago, but have been protected as a way to help grow their population. Biologists recently assessed that river otter numbers are sufficiently large to allow trapping.

Starke Chamber Names Kersting’s Cycle Center Business of the Year
“The little shop in the middle of nowhere where wonderful folks come from everywhere” is the 2015 Starke County Chamber of Commerce Business of the Year.
Kersting’s Cycle Center owner Jim Kersting and his late wife, Nella, opened a small engine repair shop south of North Judson on State Road 39 in 1960. BMV Amends Hours to Accommodate Elections
Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles license branches will adjust their hours next Monday and Tuesday in order to accommodate prospective voters. They will be open from 8:30 a.m. until 8 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 2 and from 6 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 3. During those times license branches will only process new, amended or replacement ID card and driver’s license or learner permit applications. New driver’s licenses and learner permits will only be processed if the customer has already completed the required testing. Continue reading
