State Livestock Grant Applications Available
Grants are available from the Indiana State Department of Agriculture to promote and market livestock in order to foster growth within the industry. Educational programs, livestock shows and exhibitions, conventions and similar events and projects are eligible to apply for funding. Grant dollars cover things like value-added feasibility studies, research projects, market development and other projects that encourage the development of business and industry related to livestock production, processing and distribution. Consulting Firm Anticipates Savings for Pulaski Bridge Repair Work
United Consulting and the Pulaski County Highway Department have been working together to propose bridge repair work in the near future.
During Monday night’s Pulaski County Commissioners meeting, Jeff Larrison – a representative of the company – provided the information. Pulaski County saw several of its bridges receive low quality ratings, meaning they are subject to annual inspection.

Deer season isn’t just for hunters. AAA Insurance warns motorists are most likely to hit a deer between the months of October and December. The Insurance Information Institute advises animals, mainly deer, are involved in more than a million collisions with vehicles each year, resulting in about 200 fatalities.
Motorists can do their part to avoid becoming statistics by sweeping eyes back and forth across the road and watching for signs of animals and their movement. Look to the right and left as well in case an animal is by the side of the road. Motorists are most likely to hit a deer, but occasionally they will run into the side of your car. Continue reading

Indiana Supreme Court Hears Arguments in Pulaski County Land Case
A case involving the ownership of land in Pulaski County was heard Monday before the Indiana Supreme Court.
The case of Bonnell v. Cotner pertains to a land dispute involving a tax sale and a claim of adverse possession. The Pulaski County Circuit Court ruled in favor of Bonnell, but an Appellate court reversed that decision.
Pulaski County Furthers Discussion on Animal Housing Problem
Pulaski County is continuing discussions on what has become a bit of an animal problem.
The issue surfaced last week during a joint session of the Pulaski County Council and County Commissioners. Talks continued during last night’s Commissioners meeting to find space to properly house the animals.

West Central School Board Adopts 2016 Budget
The West Central School Board adopted the 2016 budget when they met Thursday evening. Superintendent Don Street says it’s a total of $9.3 million. That includes $400,000 into the rainy day fund and a general fund budget of $6.4 million. West Central’s debt service budget is $797,000, and just over $1 million is allocated for capital projects. The corporation’s transportation budget is $574,000 and bus replacement is about $158,000. Continue reading

Pulaski County’s largest, and most expensive home has found itself with new owners.
The Braun Mansion, built in 1998 by Braun Corporation founder Ralph Braun, was put on the market for sale earlier this year. The listing price for the estate was $2.5-million.
Pulaski County Freezes Employee Wages in Midst of Longevity Debate
Following cuts to their 2016 budget, Pulaski County has made a couple of decisions regarding employee compensation.
A joint session of the Pulaski County Commissioners and County Council took place Wednesday night. The goal was to review a matrix defining salaries for the County’s employees. Pulaski County has previously stated its goal of bringing compensation to a level that supports longevity.

West Central Pleased With Wind Turbine Investment
The wind turbine on the West Central Schools campus has proven to be a sound investment for the corporation. Superintendent Don Street says it conserves energy and helps keep electric bills in check. He says June, July and August are traditionally slow months in terms of wind production. It picks up in September through the winter months, though. West Central is on net metering through NIPSCO, which allows the corporation to build up credits during heavy wind months and use them during slower months. Continue reading
