Republican Senator Dan Coats offered several amendments to legislation the Senate is reviewing that would extend the expanded emergency unemployment benefits program.

Coats submitted amendments that would reform the existing program to ensure that it is paid for and benefits are going to those actively looking for work. One of those amendments includes prohibiting simultaneous collection of Social Security disability insurance and unemployment insurance. By law, a person must be able to work to qualify for unemployment benefits, yet some people claiming unemployment benefits also request Social Security disability benefits. This would save roughly $6 billion.

Free Business Website Workshop Scheduled This Week in Merrillville

Representatives from Google will host a free tech workshop for small businesses on Friday, Dec. 6 from 9 a.m. to noon CT at the Radisson Star Plaza in Merrillville.

Indiana Senator Dan Coats is partnering with Google to present this workshop which is aimed to help small business owners create their own websites. Those in attendance will receive a customized domain name, free web hosting for a year, a local business listing on Google Maps, plus free tools, training and resources.

A staff member from U.S. Senator Dan Coats’ office will be in LaPorte on Wednesday, June 26 to answer any constituent questions experiencing problems with a federal agency.

The representative will be at the LaPorte City Hall, 801 Michigan Ave., from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. to help you with problems you may have.

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce Tuesday presented Senator Joe Donnelly and Senator Dan Coats of Indiana with the annual Spirit of Enterprise Award for their support of pro-jobs, pro-growth policies during the second session of the 112th Congress.

Sen. Coats Teams Up for Hire a Hoosier Vet Job Fair

  
 
Hoosier employers will soon have the opportunity to discover the skills and talents of Indiana’s veterans, as Senator Dan Coats has announced his partnership with several organizations in hosting the seventh annual “Operation Hire a Hoosier Veteran” Job Fair, planned for April 10 at the Indiana State Fairgrounds.

Coats said it is the duty of state officials to do everything they can to help their brave veterans re-enter the workforce, and said he hopes all Hoosiers will help spread the word about the event. He expressed Hoosier veterans bring unique skills, leadership abilities and experience that can benefit the workplace, making them valuable, hardworking employees.
