Gary Dulin and Wendy McInire were elected vice president and secretary respectively. Sherry Fort was named corporation treasurer. Water Now Available for Serenity Garden Watering

City_of_Knox_LogoThe Knox City Water Department will get a reimbursement for expenses related to the management of the Downtown Serenity Garden.

The project was started by a class at Knox High School as a way to learn about community involvement. The site of the Serenity Garden was developed following the demolition of a downtown building. It took several months to complete the work.

Students to Continue Serenity Garden Work Today

  
 

Knox High School students will continue work on the Serenity Garden project today. The downtown Knox beautification project is on the north side of the intersection of Main Street and Lake Street.

Benches were installed last Saturday, and the concrete was poured to serve as the base of a gazebo. The gazebo will be constructed using split block, concrete, and wood rafters. It nearly mimics the structure at the Eagle Creek Community Church. A red metal roof will top the gazebo. The labor was donated for the concrete work.  Additional labor is donated for other aspects of this specific project.

Knox City Council Approves Comprehensive Plan

The Knox City Council reviewed the newly completed comprehensive plan during their meeting on Tuesday night.

The members commented that a lot of hard work was put into the committee meetings to come up with a vision for the city in the next five years. The comprehensive plan contains needs and wishes of members of the city that includes downtown projects, improvements to Main Street, the addition of signs and other features on South Main Street, beautifying the area around the schools and Sandy Acres Park, and an improvement to the Parkview area. Also included in the plan is an infrastructure and utility extension from Main Street to County Road 200 South.

Knox City Council to Review Comprehensive Plan Tonight

The Knox City Council members will discuss progress on the Serenity Garden project when they meet tonight.

Knox High School students are working hard to get things ready for the project at the corner of Lake and Main Streets in downtown Knox. The students are planning to plant donated vegetation and flowers at the location as well as install purchased benches and bricks in the allotted space. The project is expected to get underway soon.

Knox City Council Blesses Downtown Project

The Knox City Council has blessed the development of the vacant lot at Main and Lake Streets into a Serenity Garden.

A Knox Community High School class has the city council’s enthusiastic blessing to beautify the vacant lot at the corner of Lake and Main Streets. English Department Chair John Poindexter says 33 of his senior students are taking part in the career readiness curriculum and want to put the paperwork and planning into action.

“What we’d like to do is go in and put up either a gazebo or a pergola, one of the two, and have two picnic tables or benches for people to sit in, do some landscaping and put in a brick walkway,” Poindexter told the city council. Continue reading
