17-Year-Old Culver Girl Shot in Neck

A 17-year-old Culver girl was airlifted to South Bend Memorial Hospital after she reportedly suffered a gunshot wound to her neck from what was possibly a live round of ammunition that had ignited from a nearby fire at her residence on Tamarack Road in Culver.

According to a release from Marshall County Dispatch, a 911 call was received reporting Andrea Bottomley had been shot in the neck and was still conscious and breathing- though she felt numbness in her body. After being treated at the scene, Bottomley was transported by MedFlight to South Bend where she was treated for her injuries and later discharged. The incident is still under investigation.

Accident Claims Life of Plymouth Woman

Emergency personnel were called to an accident on 1100 East, just north of U.S. 30 in Starke County yesterday afternoon. According to an officer from the Starke County Sheriff’s Department, 45-year-old Lois Bickel, of Plymouth, was traveling northbound on 1100 East, when for some unknown reason, left the roadway, went sideways, went into the ditch and hit some trees. She was airlifted to South Bend Memorial Hospital and later died of her injuries.

The St. Joseph County Coroner’s Office determined her cause of death as blunt force trauma. The Starke County Sheriff’s Department investigated the accident.

Starke County Emergency Personnel Responds to Three Vehicle Accident

Starke County emergency personnel were called to a three vehicle accident at the intersection of State Road 8 and U.S. 35 Saturday.

Marilyn Stellingwerf, 83, of Demotte, was at the intersection when she pulled onto U.S. 35 and into the path of a vehicle driven by Vaid Robinson, 74, of Hamlet. Robinson hit the passenger side of Stellingwerf’s vehicle, causing it to spin into the southbound lane of U.S. 35. Robinson’s vehicle was struck by a southbound vehicle driven by Brandon Brammer, 27, of Knox.
