Engaging in an apparent 104-mile-per-hour speed contest on State Road 2 could lead to misdemeanor charges for two LaPorte residents. A LaPorte County sheriff’s deputy says he saw two vehicles traveling westbound side by side at an “unreasonably high rate of speed” near County Road 400 East around 2:45 p.m. Thursday.

A wanted South Bend man was arrested, after a LaPorte County traffic stop reportedly turned up a significant amount of marijuana and two pistols. LaPorte County sheriff’s deputies say they pulled over a vehicle for multiple traffic infractions in the area of U.S. 20 and County Road 400 East just after 2:30 Friday afternoon.

The Town of Hamlet has recently changed the way it issues tickets for speeding, seat belt violations, and other similar offenses, more info here on these changes issued . Town officials say that for the past few years, Hamlet Police had been treating traffic offenses as town ordinance violations, after other municipalities adopted similar procedures.
Knox City officials have noticed an excessive amount of drivers ignoring the speed limits posted around the schools and they’re preparing to crack down on the problem.
In his report during Tuesday’s city council meeting, Mayor Dennis Estok addressed the issue. He explained that students aren’t the only offenders. Apparently, some bus drivers, parents and other adult motorists are also guilty of traveling too fast in the area. Continue reading
