Culver Town Council Approves Donation for St. Joseph Regional Medical EMS Fund Raiser

Culver Town Council members considered making a donation to the St. Joseph Regional Medical Center EMS Fundraiser when they met last Tuesday.

EMS Director Kathy Hart explained that there are a few pieces of equipment that the hospital is interested in purchasing.

She said nothing is finalized but they’re looking to laptops for the rigs as well as an automatic chest compression device. Continue reading

Coroner’s Budget Contains Money to Cover Body Storage Costs

That’s why Starke County Coroner-elect Adam Gray has opted to wait on construction of space for his department. He told the county council last night he wants to take his time and make sure the county’s needs are met. Per the state, a morgue has space available for a pathologist to work and must adhere to strict guidelines. An office space with storage is less restrictive. Continue reading

Lockdown Lifted at Plymouth Facilities

St. Joseph Regional Medical CenterA pair of medical facilities in Marshall County were placed on lockdown this morning after reports of a threat to a staff member. According to our reporting partners at WNDU-TV, The Bowen Center and St. Joseph Regional Medical Center were secured as a precaution following an incident that occurred early this morning. That lockdown was lifted at 1:30 p.m.

St. Joe Medical Center in Plymouth Announces Expansion

The St. Joseph Regional Medical Center has announced a future expansion at its Plymouth campus featuring a new, state-of-the-art Emergency Department. The hospital is expected to break ground for the expansion project at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, March 28, beginning the work of constructing the new 12,000 square-foot Emergency Department located adjacent to the Plymouth hospital’s current Emergency Department.

Flu Prompts IU Health to Limit Visitors

 

 
 

IU Health is implementing “precautionary measures of visitor restrictions” until further notice to protect patients, families and hospital staff from potential exposure to the flu virus. That means only healthy adults ages 18 and older may visit patients. This includes parents, spouses, significant others and spiritual counselors, but exceptions can be made in special circumstances. A “healthy” adult is one who is not experiencing any flu-like symptoms, such as fever, cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, headache, tiredness, body aches, diarrhea or vomiting; and someone who has not been exposed to the flu virus in the past week. Visitors are also reminded to wash their hands or use hand sanitizer often. Continue reading

Motorist Arrested After Wreck With Injuries

 
 
A two-vehicle wreck with injuries sent one man to St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Marshall County and another to the Marshall County Jail. It happened Friday evening around 5:20 p.m. on U.S. 30 at King Road. Shawn M. Hoogerhyde, 43, was arrested for operating a vehicle while intoxicated causing bodily injury. Alexey Y. Zakharov, 25, was transported to the hospital by Plymouth EMS. Prior to the wreck, the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office received several 911 calls about a dark colored Dodge pickup truck that was driving erratically on Lincoln Highway. Several officers were in the area attempting to locate the truck when they received word that a vehicle matching that description had been involved in a crash.

Plymouth Man Killed in Accident in Marshall County

The Marshall County Sheriff’s Department investigated a fatal accident late yesterday afternoon.

82-year-old Donald Ferguson, of Plymouth, was killed instantly when his car was struck from behind by a semi-trailer tanker truck on U.S. 30 and Cedar Road in Bourbon. Ferguson was making a right hand turn onto Cedar Road when the accident occurred. Ferguson’s wife was injured in the accident and she was transferred to St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Plymouth.

Three Injured in Two Vehicle Accident

Three people were injured in a two vehicle accident around 8:30 p.m. last night on U.S. 30 just east of the Grovertown Truck Stop.

Starke County police say that a passenger car was northbound on 1100 East, crossed the median, hesitated in the median, and began to proceed into the path of an oncoming semi. The driver of the semi tried to stop and swerved to the right to attempt to avoid a collision, however the driver could not stop. The semi was loaded at the time of the accident.

Two Injured in Accident in Marshall County

Plymouth man and his daughter were injured in a two vehicle accident Monday afternoon on U.S. 31 just south of U.S. 6 in Marshall County.

Marshall County Police say 29-year-old Anthony McNeal of Plymouth was attempting to cross U.S. 31 at the intersection of 2C Road and pulled into the path of an oncoming semi. The semi hit the passenger side of the vehicle and it spun off the roadway. McNeal was reportedly unrestrained and was ejected from the vehicle. He was transported by helicopter to Memorial Hospital in South Bend. His daughter, 6-month-old Reese McNeal was a passenger in the vehicle. She was transported by ambulance to Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center.

First Starke County Baby of 2011 born at LaPorte Regional Medical Center

The first Starke County baby of the year was born at the LaPorte Regional Medical Center. Amy Singleton, of Knox, gave birth to an 8 lb., 5 oz. baby girl on Saturday, January 1st at 6:26 a.m. CT. The baby’s name is Ireland Rose Furlong. The LaPorte Regional Medical Center’s OB department reported that three New Year’s babies were born that day and Amy’s was the only one from Starke County.
