Starke County Clerk Reassures Voters, Offers Tips to Verify Information

 
 

The Starke County Clerk’s Office has not experienced any unusual problems with voting machines or registrations. Clerk Vicki Cooley wants to reassure local voters given the ongoing Indiana State Police investigation into possible fraudulent voter registration and concerns that systems may be hacked. Starke County does use electronic voting machines, but they are not connected to the internet. Additionally Cooley says vendor MicroVote is certified by the federal and state government. Commissioners Outline Timeline for Facility Renovations

The former Starke County Jail building will be turned into office space for the probation department, Starke County Community Corrections and Purdue Extension.

Proposed renovations to the Starke County Courthouse and old jail building across the street will start next spring and wrap up by the end of 2016 under a timeline adopted last night by the county commissioners. Plans call for the former jail building to be turned into office space for Starke County Community Corrections and the probation department. Purdue Extension will move from the courthouse into the basement, and space will be incorporated for a county morgue facility. Continue reading

North Bend Polling Site to get Upgrade

  
 

Improvements will be done to the North Bend Township polling location thanks to a Help America Vote Act (HAVA) grant.

According to Starke County Clerk Vicki Cooley, the county was awarded the grant worth $24,459.35. The money will be used to upgrade the handicapped accessibility at that site. The improvements will be done this spring. Proposals for the work will be taken soon.
