Metro Recycling Proposal Prompts Requests for Zoning Change as Residents Question Secrecy
The Starke County Commissioners intend to ask the county plan commission to review the zoning designation of the North Judson Industrial Park. The issue came up at last night’s meeting during a discussion of the controversial and now defunct Metro Recycling transfer station project. North Judson residents Aaron Simerly and Carol Silhavy asked the commissioners how the project was kept so secret for so long and raised concerns about the environmental and economic effects such a business would have on the community. Truck Route Implementation Moves Forward
The GPS systems used by over-the-road truck drivers should soon be updated to reflect the truck routes in Knox and North Judson. Starke County Economic Development Foundation Executive Director Charlie Weaver told the county commissioners last night 26 separate GPS providers have accepted the revised routes, but he doesn’t have an implementation schedule just yet. Highway Department Realizes Winter Supply Savings
The mild winter resulted in considerable savings for the Starke County Highway Department. Superintendent Rik Ritzler told the county commissioners Monday evening they used 25 percent less sand and 50 percent less salt compared to last year. Continue reading

Broken Diesel Pump Proves Costly for Starke County EMS
Starke County EMS has been paying retail diesel fuel prices for the past several weeks due to a problem with the pump at the county highway garage.
