State lawmakers may consider further regulating cold medication sales in an effort to curb Indiana’s methamphetamine epidemic. Sen. Jim Arnold, D-LaPorte, says that’s one of several priority issues they will consider when they reconvene next week. Storms Leave REMC, NIPSCO Customers in the Dark
A transmission outage at two Kankakee Valley REMC substations in Starke County has thousands of customers in the dark. Spokeswoman Amanda Steeb says a combination of ice and wind this morning has caused numerous broken poles and downed power lines. She reminds everyone to stay clear of downed lines and to treat them as though they are energized. No restoration time is available. More than 3,100 members are without power. Continue reading
INDOT Reminds Motorists to Slow Down
Roads across northwest Indiana are expected to be slick and hazardous into the evening hours. Widespread sleet and freezing rain have blanketed the area since early this morning. INDOT has 170 plow and salt crews on the roads but drivers say the conditions are exceptionally tricky because the wintry mix is washing de-icing materials off the road. Continue reading

The last week of 2015 is off to a dreary start in the weather department. A freezing rain advisory is in effect across the area until mid-afternoon. Following Zoning Approval, Tractor Supply Opening Remains Mystery
Now that zoning approval has been granted, additional steps can be taken to open a Tractor Supply Company location in Knox.
During Monday night’s meeting of the Knox Board of Zoning Appeals, a representative of Tractor Supply Co. requested a variance be granted to allow for the use of outdoor storage space at the Knox Mall – the proposed site of the store.
Coroner Space Scrapped from Old Jail Renovatoins
The extensive renovations of the old Starke County Jail in downtown Knox will not include space for the coroner. The county council and commissioners made that decision Monday night when they formally agreed to proceed with reconfiguring that building for the probation department and Starke County Community Corrections.
