Two NASCAR drivers have been penalized with heavy fines and probation in post-race actions after the conclusion of the race Saturday night at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Behavioral penalties were issued where Brad Keselowski was fined $50,000 and placed on NASCAR probation until Nov. 12. Tony Stewart was fined $25,000 and placed on NASCAR probation for the same duration.

According to NASCAR officials, the pair violated two sections in the 2014 rule book: actions detrimental to stock car racing and a behavioral penalty that involved post-race incidents.

Tony Stewart Will Not Face Charges in Sprint Car Death Investigation

An Ontario County, New York grand jury deliberated less than an hour to reach a decision in the case involving the death of 20-year-old Kevin Ward, Jr. on Aug. 9 at Canandaigua Motorsports Park in New York.

According to a statement released by Ontario County District Attorney Michael Tantillo on Wednesday, the grand jury determined that there is “no basis to charge Tony Stewart with any crimes”. The case was “no-billed” by the grand jury.

Grand Jury to Review Evidence in Ward Death

  
 

The Ontario County District Attorney in the state of New York has taken all evidence into the investigation into Kevin Ward, Jr.’s death to the grand jury.

Ward died after being struck by the rear of a sprint car driven by NASCAR driver Tony Stewart during a dirt track competition at Canandaigua Motorsport Park on Aug. 9. Ward and Stewart had contact on lap 14 which created a caution. It was during the caution when Ward exited his racecar and walked onto the dirt racing surface. Stewart passed by and hit Ward as he was approaching Stewart’s racecar. The impact resulted mortal injuries. Ward died of massive blunt trauma, according to an autopsy.

Investigation into Sprint Car Death Complete

 
 

The investigation into the death of Kevin A. Ward, Jr. is complete, according to New York’s Ontario County Sheriff Philip C. Povero.

Ward died from injuries sustained after being hit by a sprint car on Aug. 9 at Canandaigua Motorsports Park in upstate New York.

NASCAR driver Tony Stewart and Ward had contact on lap 14 in a race in which they were competing which brought out a caution. During the caution situation, Ward removed himself from his car and walked onto the racing surface. As he neared Stewart’s racecar, the rear of Stewart’s car struck Ward. Ward sustained massive blunt trauma and died of those injuries.

Tony Stewart to Return to Racing at Atlanta Motor Speedway

Officials from Stewart-Haas Racing announced Thursday afternoon that Tony Stewart will be back in the seat of the No. 14 Chevrolet this weekend at Atlanta Motor Speedway.

Stewart has not raced in a NASCAR race since being involved in a winged sprint car accident at Canandaigua Motorsports Park in New York where Kevin Ward, Jr. lost his life on Aug. 9. The last race he competed in on the NASCAR level was at Pocono Raceway on Aug. 3.

NASCAR’s Executive Vice President and Chief Racing Development Officer Steve O’Donnell said officials have been in constant contact with Stewart’s team and they will stay close to the situation as Stewart returns to the track. O’Donnell added that Stewart has “received all necessary clearances required to return to all racing activities”.

Tony Stewart Withdraws from Michigan Race

Officials at Stewart-Haas Racing have announced that Tony Stewart will not be in the No. 14 for the Pure Michigan 400 Sunday afternoon.

Jeff Burton will take Stewart’s place for the team’s entry in the race.

In the announcement, officials indicated that the driver change pertains only to this weekend’s race. Tony Stewart has not decided on plans for upcoming races on the schedule.

Fatal Accident at Canandaigua Motorsports Park Remains under Investigation

 
 

The investigation into the death of Kevin Ward, Jr. in a sprint car accident on Saturday night at Canandaigua Motorsports Park in New York will continue for another couple of weeks.

Investigators are working on gathering evidence and developing a racetrack crash reconstruction, according to Sheriff Philip C. Povero of the Ontario County Sheriff’s Department. He stated that when a thorough investigation is complete, those involved with the investigation will meet with the Ontario County District Attorney’s Office and discuss all aspects of the investigation. It will be then when authorities may release information concerning the accident.

Autopsy Results Released in Fatal Sprint Car Accident

  
 

New York’s Ontario County Sheriff Phil Povero conducted a press conference on Monday evening to release the autopsy findings on Kevin Ward, Jr. Ward was fatally injured in a Sprint car accident at a dirt track in upstate New York on Saturday night.

In 2014 only, there were 38,724 such accidents — 4,000 fewer than in 2013. 2015 saw fatal collisions and injury collisions jump to nearly 40,000. In 2016, the number fell again, to less than 36,000. In 2017, the number of motor vehicle fatalities was 1,841; down 2.8% from 2016 (1,895). The number of serious injuries decreased to 9,960 in 2017; down 7.4% from 2016 (10,760).

According to a press release, Ontario County Coroner Kevin Henderson found that the cause of death was massive blunt force trauma. No other information regarding the autopsy findings will be released.

Investigation into Fatal Sprint Car Accident Continues

The Ontario County Sheriff’s Department is still investigating a Winged Sprint Car accident that happened late Saturday night at Canandaigua Motorsports Park in Canandaigua, New York. NASCAR driver Tony Stewart was racing in that event and was involved in the accident as the boston car accident attorneys declared at court.

A chp traffic report was released by the sheriff’s department and tweeted by NASCAR reporters explains that Stewart and Kevin Ward, Jr. had contact in the race and the action was operating under the caution flag. Ward left his race car and walked down the track onto the racing surface. According to the report, Stewart and another car were in tandem and approached Ward who was gesturing to the cars. The first car swerved to avoid Ward while Stewart’s rear tire struck Ward.

A Winged Sprint car driver suffered fatal injuries after an incident with a NASCAR driver at a New York dirt track.

NASCAR driver Tony Stewart was participating in a dirt track race at Canandaigua Motorsports Park in Canandaigua, New York when he and another driver, identified as Kevin Ward, Jr., 20,  had contact on the track. Ward left his race car and approached Stewart’s car on foot. It was then when Stewart reportedly struck Ward with his Winged Sprint car.

Bob Newton Hoosier Tire Classic a Success at Plymouth Speedway

It was an exciting night of racing Saturday night at Plymouth Speedway for the inaugural Bob Newton Hoosier Tire Classic. Four divisions of racing provided entertainment on the dirt surface including the Sprints on Dirt (SODs)

Series and those cars flew around the track.

Gregg Dalmer won that division with Garrett Saunders winning the Traxxas USAC 600 Restricted Winged Sprints . Randy Shilling won in the Traxxas USAC 600 Winged Sprints race and Frank Marshall picked up the win in the UMP Modified race.

NASCAR driver and analyst Kenny Wallace fell short in the Modified feature as he got caught up in a wreck during a restart on lap four. He was running seventh at the time.

The question and answer and autograph session with Tony Stewart that was scheduled for this Thursday at the Newton Center in Lakeville has been canceled.

Tony Stewart was injured in a sprint car accident on Monday, Aug. 5 that caused two bones to break in his right leg. Two surgeries to help repair the breakage were conducted last week and he is at home now resting comfortably. Due to the nature of his injury, Stewart-Haas Racing officials have announced that Stewart is out of his Bass Pro Shops/Mobil 1 stock car in NASCAR’s Sprint Cup Series indefinitely.

Three-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Champion Tony Stewart was injured in an accident with five laps to go at a sprint car race at Southern Iowa Speedway in Oskaloosa, Iowa on Monday night.

A lapped car had spun and stopped and Stewart had nowhere to go. His car hit the lapped car which flipped Stewart’s sprint car. He was assisted from his car by emergency officials, transported to a local hospital and underwent surgery to repair a broken leg. Reports indicate that he suffered a broken tibia and fibula in the crash.

Big Changes at Plymouth Speedway This Season

The world of auto racing is an ever changing one, even at the local level.

The Plymouth Speedway has undergone an extensive change in the off-season. Ed Kennedy, the owner of the track, made the decision to change the surface from asphalt to dirt. Director of Racing Matt Schwartz believes it’s going to be a positive change for the speedway.

“The asphalt track wasn’t that successful,” Schwartz stated. “We weren’t getting a lot of cars or a lot of fans. So, last year we experimented and tore out the infield and put in a one-fifth mile dirt track for racing and it was well received. We had a lot of people show up in the stands, we had a lot of cars in the pits and it was really exciting.”
