More than 1,300 pounds of unwanted prescription drugs were collected by the Indiana State Police, during Saturday’s Take Back initiative. Locally, 41 pounds of medications were turned in at the Bremen Post, while the Lowell Post collected 25 pounds. Several local law enforcement agencies also took part.
Last week’s Prescription Drug Take Back Event resulted in nearly 1,400 pounds of unwanted drugs being collected by Indiana State Police. That’s not counting those collected by 36 other law enforcement agencies around the state who took part in the event, including the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department and the Bremen Police Department. Many law enforcement agencies around the country are teaming up for a Prescription Drug Take Back Event on Saturday. This will be the 11th nationwide Drug Take Back Day. The Indiana State Police is partnering with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration for the ninth National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day. The event is being held today from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Residents can drop off expired or unused prescription medications to law enforcement for proper disposal at any of the Indiana State Police posts. Over 320 tons of prescription medications were collected nationwide last October. During this event new or used needles will not be accepted. Pills, cough syrup and other unwanted medications can be deposited for disposal.
