Unemployment rates were a bit higher in July than the month before, but still better than the same period last year. Starke County’s rate climbed to four percent last month, according to the Indiana Department of Workforce Development. That’s a half a percent higher than June, but a full percentage point lower than July of 2016.

Starke County Ranks Fifth in State in Unemployment Report

Starke County continues to be in the top ten, according to the latest unemployment report. Even though we dropped slightly, we moved up to a tie for fifth in the rankings.
Fayette County is number one at 11.7%. Elkhart, Lawrence, and Starke Counties are tied for fifth at 10.1%. The state unemployment figure is 8.1%.
