The Starke County Democratic Party will caucus to find a new Coroner a little later this month.
A vacancy was created when former Coroner Adam Gray stepped down, citing professional and family reasons for the decision. Starke County has partnered with Jasper County in the interim to continue providing the Coroner service.
The Starke County Election Board has finalized the ballots for November’s General Election.
During their Monday morning meeting, the names slated to appear on the ballots were reviewed for Knox, North Judson, and Hamlet. Correct spelling was the primary concern, but the way in which the names appeared was also a concern for the board.

Political efforts are beginning to mobilize in the North Judson – San Pierre area.
The school corporation has authorized a referendum to appear on the November General Election ballot that would raise the property tax levy. According to officials with the school corporation, funds raised will help maintain key services without reductions in staff or cuts to student activities.
Pulaski County may soon have a full-time IT professional.
Following a recommendation by the Pulaski County Commissioners, the County Council met Monday evening with the Commissioners in joint session to potentially finalize the matter. The County currently contracts the Information Technology position, but the individual holding the contract gave notice the service would no longer be provided under contract prices.

Plans are being developed after it was learned the Town of North Judson will be hosting a Town Convention.
The decision was handed down by the Starke County Clerk’s office after Jesiah Clemons’ paperwork to run for the North Judson Town Council’s Ward 2 seat as an Independent was rejected. Clemons had previously filed to run as a Republican for the seat, which was accepted by the County Clerk’s office.

North Judson will be holding a Town Convention after all.
Jesiah Clemons filed to run for the North Judson Town Council Ward 2 seat this November. He was listed as an Independent candidate for the position. The Starke County Clerk’s office, however, says Clemons failed to meet the deadline to file his paperwork.
Several candidates met the Monday deadline to file paperwork for office in Starke County.
Communities hosting Town Conventions – which includes Hamlet and North Judson had a state deadline of August 3rd. Parties with more than one candidate for office will now decide which candidate represents the party heading into November’s General Election.
The Town of Hamlet wants to move their polling site to a newly constructed facility.
During Monday morning’s Starke County Election Board meeting, the request was reviewed. The Election Board says that although Hamlet has already voted on the move, the change must also be approved at the County level.

The Starke County Clerk says a new candidate has entered the race for North Judson Town Clerk-Treasurer.
Candidates are still lacking to hold a town convention in North Judson, but Alicia Collins has filed the necessary paperwork to run as a Democrat in November. She will be challenging incumbent Republican Donna Henry for the seat.

Hamlet will be holding a Town Convention according to the latest candidate information from the Starke County Clerk’s office.
Multiple Democratic candidates are seeking to represent Hamlet’s Ward 1 on the Town Council. Brian Earnest, the Incumbent Frank Lonigro, and Connie Bailey are all vying for the seat.
The Indiana Secretary of State’s Office says Starke County had the highest voter turnout in the state during the May municipal primary election.
Connie Lawson released her office’s Voter Turnout Report earlier this week, indicating 12-percent of the 2.6-million eligible voters cast a ballot in the Hoosier State.
Following May’s Primary Municipal Election, the Starke County Republicans now have a few decisions to make.
The contested races during May’s primary in Knox were limited to Democrats seeking seats on the City Council. Members of the Starke County Republicans, however, still have several weeks to find nominees.

Monday is the final day for those looking to vote in the municipal primary election to register.
Forms must be turned into the voter registration office by 4:00 p.m. or, at the very least, postmarked by today. Voters can register to cast their ballot online, in-person, or through the U.S. Postal Service. Registration can be completed through the local county election office or at any BMV office.
