An investigator with the Indiana State Fire Marshal’s Office will be in Winamac today to delve further into what caused a late Friday night fire at Dillman Tire.
The Winamac Fire Department was called to the business located at the corner of Logan and Pearl Streets at approximately 11:20 p.m. ET as several people going by noticed smoke coming from the building.
An overnight fire destroyed a Winamac business.
Winamac Fire Chief Bill Weaver told WKVI that The Winamac Fire Department was called out at 11:20 p.m. ET Friday night to a fire at Dillman Tire, located at the corner of Logan and Pearl Streets. The fire started in the eastern part of the building where a workshop is located.
An early Monday morning fire destroyed the home of a Winamac family and now they’re in need of help.
Winamac Fire Chief Bill Weaver explained that the fire department was called to the Kevin Taylor home at 411 W. Main Street at about 5:50 a.m. ET. Taylor, his wife and two children made it out of the house safely before the fire department arrived at the scene.
Five new firefighters were hired to the Winamac Fire Department.
Fire Chief Bill Weaver told the town board that one of the applicants is fully trained except for training at the station with the trucks. The other four will need training.
The Winamac Fire Department was called to a house fire at Doug Sobczak’s residence at 626 N. Market Street on Tuesday, January 24th.
Winamac Fire Chief, Bill Weaver, said that the homeowner called and said there was a fire in the living room. Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire. A representative from the Indiana State Fire Marshal’s office was called to the scene and could not determine the cause of the fire. Damage was contained to the living room area.
No injuries were reported at the scene.
The Winamac Fire Department was called to two fires Monday.
Winamac Fire Chief Bill Weaver said that firefighters were called to an apartment fire at 303 N. Market Street at about 1:30 p.m. ET. They were able to get to the scene quickly and extinguish that fire. Weaver said that an investigator from the Indiana State Fire Marshal’s office arrived on scene and determined that the fire started in the closet in a bedroom and that it was deliberately set. No arrests have been made yet in this arson case and the fire remains under investigation.
