Fire Destroys Winamac Eagles Location

 
 

Firefighters continued to battle flames on Wednesday afternoon that resulted from a morning fire in Winamac.

The Winamac Eagles Post #2580, located in the 600 block of West 11th Street, caught fire around 8:25 a.m. EDT. The cause of the blaze is still under investigation, but three State Fire Marshal’s were called to the scene to investigate.

NJ-SP SB Brainstorms Ideas for Political Action Committee to Assist with Referendum

pacFollowing their meeting Monday evening, the NJSP School Board held a work session to discuss the formation of a Political Action Committee. They considered various community members who could potentially be contacted to assist the school with the referendum process. The P.A.C would be responsible for making sure community members are registered to vote and spreading the word about the corporation and why the referendum is needed. Continue reading

2015 Pulaski County Pageant Royalty

The Pulaski County 4-H Fair kicked off with the annual Miss Pulaski Pageant on Sunday. Six local ladies came together to compete for the crown. Contestants included Briana Gallegos, Melissa Ann Bailey, Olivea Eschelman-Gorby, Macy Bischoff, Alyssa Bushman and Kallie Rasmussen. Since May the candidates have been meeting weekly to train for the pageant with things such as make-up application, dress rehearsals, mock-judging, interviews and public speaking. Continue reading

Winamac Fireworks Moved From Town Park to School

 
 

Residents of Winamac will be traveling to a new location to view this year’s fireworks show.

The July 4th celebration is organized through matched donations and typically hosted in the Winamac Town Park. Due to flooding that is affecting the grounds, the fireworks show will now be held at the school in Winamac on the practice fields.

Recent River Flooding Affects Local Businesses

high waterWith the recent abundance of rainy weather a couple local businesses that offer summer services are suffering. Winamac businesses Tippe-Canoe Rentals as well as Riverside Rentals haven’t been able to let anyone out on the rivers for weeks due to the high levels. Society of Innovators Still Seeking Nominees

society of innovators logoThe Society of Innovators at Ivy Tech Community College is looking for northwest Indiana residents who are finding new solutions to old problems. Nominations are being accepted through Monday for innovators in the seven-county northwest Indiana region. Past honorees include BraunAbility founder Ralph Braun and the North Judson-based Kemin-Lambert Spearmint Team. Society of Innovators Managing Director John Davies says innovation is universal.

Incredible Causes will Benefit from Spirit of Pulaski County Proceeds

st0pThe annual Spirit of Pulaski County, formerly known as Germanfest, is scheduled to take place on Saturday, August 8 this year at the Train Depot in downtown Winamac. During the event, the Pulaski County Chamber of Commerce is hosting a spirit ride and spirit walk in memory of Tina Kasten and all other domestic abuse victims. Eastern Pulaski Schools Anticipate Savings Through Bond Refinancing

 
 

During the Eastern Pulaski School Board meeting Monday evening, the board decided without any opposition to refinance the school’s pension bonds. Back in 2006, the state allowed schools to take out bonds to pay off their pension obligations, that money still needs to be repaid. With this resolution, the school will be taking advantage of lower interest rates to reduce the cost and still pay the bonds off in the same amount of time. Continue reading
