American Red Cross Shares WKVI Blood Drive Results
American Red Cross officials are pleased with the results of last month’s WKVI blood drive. The station hosted a bloodmobile in the parking lot of the studio at 400 West Culver Road on Monday, Aug. 3. A total of 19 donors registered, one was deferred, and 18 units of blood were collected. GoFundMe Page Set Up for WKVI Morning Show Host
Monday, Aug. 3 marked WKVI morning show host Tom Berg’s five year anniversary at the Voice of the Valley. He celebrated it in a Chicago hospital. Oncologists at Cancer Treatment Center of America confirmed his diagnosis of cancer in his colon, liver, lungs, lymph nodes, lining of his abdomen and possibly his stomach. Seeing as they cannot cure it, it has been deemed terminal. Continue reading

Attention kids, WKVI has your hotline to Santa Claus this holiday season. We’ve set up a special voicemail box at the radio station to send messages directly to the North Pole. Have your parents help you call 574-772-6241 ext. 135 between now and Tuesday, Dec. 23 and tell Santa what you want for Christmas. In addition to passing the messages along to Santa, WKVI’s Tom Berg will play select messages back on his morning show.

WKVI employees are stepping out from behind the microphone Monday evening for a good cause. The management at the Knox Pizza Hut has invited the radio station team to take part in a tip night from 4 until 8 p.m. CDT.WKVI staff members will be waiting tables, with help from Pizza Hut employees. All tips collected will go to World Hunger Relief, which is an initiative of Pizza Hut’s owner, Yum! Brands. Last year the WKVI staff raised more than $300 for charity.

WKVI Hosts First Country Christmas Contest
Get those Christmas lights and other holiday decorations hung up; WKVI is hosting the first-ever WKVI Country Christmas Contest, giving residents of rural Starke County the chance to participate in a tradition often left to the city folk. WKVI General Manager Jerry Curtis said yesterday that the idea came about as the result of a post on WKVI’s Facebook page.

It’s finally here. The fourth WKVI Food Drive at Five Star – and this year, Sanders Foods as well – runs this morning from 9 a.m. until noon, live on K99.3 FM. The staff is hoping to outdo last year’s donation of 375 pounds of food for the local food pantry, and to aid in that, the food drivee features a new addition to the event as WKVI General Manager Jerry Curtis will be broadcasting live and accepting donations at Sander’s Foods in Winamac while Tom Berg and Lenny Dessauer broadcast and collect at Five Star in Knox.

It’s time again for the WKVI Food Drive and the staff is hoping to obliterate last year’s donation of 375 pounds of food for the local food pantry. This year features a new addition to the event as WKVI General Manager Jerry Curtis will be broadcasting live and accepting donations at Sander’s Foods in Winamac while Tom Berg and Lenny Dessauer broadcast and collect at Five Star in Knox. This is fourth consecutive year for the food drive event.
WKVI Food Drive Coming Up; Live Broadcasts from Five Star, Sander’s
After raising more than 375 pounds of food for the food pantry last year, it’s time again for the WKVI Five Star Food Drive and this year features a new addition to the event as WKVI General Manager Jerry Curtis will be broadcasting live and accepting donations at Sander’s Foods in Winamac. This is fourth consecutive year for the food drive event, and Curtis said he has been involved in three of them, doing live remote broadcasts from the store.
Curtis said the food drive event is something WKVI is proud to do to help their community.
WKVI Named A Finalist for Two Indiana Broadcasters Association Awards
Several members of the WKVI staff are heading to Indianapolis tomorrow for the 26th Annual Indiana Broadcasters Association Spectrum Awards. General Manager Jerry Curtis said WKVI is a finalist in two prestigious categories.
“Every year the association recruits entries, audio projects from stations in cities, towns and markets across the state. This year we’re fortunate enough to be a finalist in the Station of the Year category, and also we’ve been recognized as a finalist in the public affairs program for our Sunday program, Kankakee Valley Viewpoints. It’s on Sunday at noon. We won’t find out until the dinner Saturday night, but we’re looking forward to being there and celebrating in whatever fashion,” Curtis said.
Special Event Planned for Saturday to Recognize Breast Cancer Awareness Month
IU Health Starke Hospital and WKVI Radio are urging you to “think pink” this October. One way to do that is to participate in a 5K race/2 mile walk this Saturday, Oct. 5 at Knox High School.
Registration for the event begins at 3 p.m. and the race begins at 4 p.m. At 3:30 p.m., a celebration will be held to recognize all breast cancer survivors. Continue reading
