New Starke Coroner Inducted in Short Ceremony, Monday
Starke County inducted a new Coroner on Monday afternoon.
Dannie Hoffer, Jr. was elected to serve in the position after members of the Starke County Democratic Party precinct committee made the selection, last week. Hoffer, Jr. was one of four candidates vying for the position.

Starke County Authorities Nab Five in Drug Patrol
An operation designed to locate illegal narcotics being transported through Starke County has landed a handful of individuals court dates.
Last Thursday, officers with the Starke County Sheriff’s Office conducted a four-hour saturation patrol on US 30. They employed the help of K9 Terror in the effort.
Trespassing Call Leads to Drug Arrest
A Winamac woman faces drug charges in Starke County after an alleged trespassing incident. Deputies from the Starke County Sheriff’s Office responded to a home in the 2000 south block of 700 East around 5:30 a.m. Friday after the resident reported someone was trying to break in. They found 33-year-old Patrina Hall outside the residence and arrested her for trespassing. Continue reading
LaPorte Police Investigate Weekend Armed Robbery
LaPorte Police are searching for a suspect after an armed robbery over the weekend.
According to information provided by the police department, the incident occurred in the 100 block of East Lincolnway on Saturday morning. Officers arrived on scene several minutes before 3:00 a.m. to the gas station.

Six soldiers who died in the line of duty – including two from Starke County – are being honored with a memorial run in Valparaiso. Victims Airlifted From Pulaski County Crash Site
Speed and possibly alcohol are to blame for a single-vehicle accident that sent five people to hospitals via air ambulance. It happened just before 5 p.m. Monday night on 400 North near 350 East in Pulaski County. When sheriff’s deputies arrived they found a Pontiac G-6 overturned on the north side of the road in a cornfield. Continue reading
Starke County Pursues Adult Jobs Training Grant
Starke County officials are applying for one of eight state grants to set up a job skills training program for local adults. Starke County Economic Development Foundation Executive Director Charlie Weaver recently spoke to the commissioners about the need for such an initiative.
“The idea is that workers who are currently employed but are not utilizing the potential they have, or workers who are unemployed and seeking new skills, the goal was to find a program that could train them.” Continue reading
