The La Porte County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a fatality crash that occurred Friday, July 19 at 11:54 a.m. CT in the area of County Road 300 North, west of Johnson Road.
Police say a red 2010 Ford Explorer was traveling west on County Road 300 North when it traveled left of center and across the eastbound lane. The vehicle traveled off the roadway and collided with a tree along the south side of County Road 300 North, according to the report. The vehicle overturned and came to rest on its driver’s side.
The driver and lone occupant in the vehicle, 65-year-old Gregory W. Crites, of Union Mills, was trapped inside the vehicle and required extrication. After being removed from the vehicle, he passed away at the scene.
No other information is available at this time.
The La Porte County Sheriff’s Department was assisted at the scene by the Trail Creek Police Department, La Porte County EMS, La Porte County Coroner’s Office, Coolspring Township Volunteer Fire Department, and Lutheran Air.
