Wings of Freedom Tour Comes to Valparaiso

Three of America’s most famous WWII aircraft will be in Porter County next week and three regional veterans will be flying on one of them. The Collings Foundation based in Stow, Mass. will be hosting the Wings of Freedom Tour, featuring the Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress, Consolidated B-24 Liberator and the North American P-51 Mustang at the Porter County Regional Airport from July 29 to July 31.

The tour runs from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. on July 29, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on July 30, and 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on July 31.

The goal of the tour is to not only honor the veterans of WWII, but to educate the nation about the history and impact the war had on our country, assuring that the memory of those who gave their life for the United States will never be forgotten. Northwest Indiana WWII veterans are encouraged to attend the event and share their stories with interested visitors.

All three aircraft will be available for walk-through tours at a cost of $12 for adults and $6 for children 12 and under. Food and beverages for the event will be available from EAA 104 and a classic car show will also take place during the event.

Region WWII veterans Henry Jacobi, Gordon Bates and Harold Chubbs will be flying on the B-17 on Monday, July 29 at 11:30 a.m.
