One person has died in a house fire that occurred at 7315 E. 100 N. in Starke County. Washington Township Fire officials, along with the Indiana State Fire Marshal’s office, are investigating the fire that occurred at midnight.
The house was fully engulfed when Washington Township firefighters arrived on scene. Starke County Coroner, Kris Rannells, said that while the investigation into the fire continues, he has confirmed that 67-year-old Diana L. Jedynak died from injuries related to the fire. She was trapped on an outside deck and was having severe difficulty breathing. She was transported from the scene of the fire to Starke Memorial Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
A fireman, policeman and an EMS technician were treated for minor injuries.
The Knox and Hamlet Fire Departments assisted at the scene. Washington Township Assistant Chief, Dave Pearman, told WKVI that the fire was serious in nature and he is working with Fred Sumpter from the Fire Marshal’s Office to determine the cause.
