The Knox Community Elementary School PTO and staff members from IU Health Starke Hospital participated in a community project at the Knox Elementary School. IU Health Starke Hospital donated $3,000 and the PTO bought two semi loads of mulch which was placed around the playground equipment and leftover mulch was placed in flower beds and other places around the Elementary School.

“The project was based on childhood obesity which revolves around a safe playground for the kids and the IU staff volunteering in the community,” said Elementary PTO President, Shelly Kemble. “The IU staff came out on Friday, May 20th at 7:00 a.m. along with the assistance of Jason Cornelius from the city with a backhoe, John Tow from Knox schools with his bucket tractor and a very hard working group of fifth grade students. The PTO has decided that they will be donating most of the tools that were used on that Friday to Knox school maintenance, Knox city park, and the city workers in Knox. The various tools that were donated were push brooms, rakes and scoop shovels.”
