An F.B.I. Task Force officer arrested two people at Bass Lake Tuesday evening. Police were alerted that 44-year-old Michael Simpson had escaped from a jail in Kentucky, where he was jailed on a sex crime, and may be in the Starke County. An F.B.I. Task Force officer stopped the suspect’s vehicle at County Road 600 East and State Road 10 where he found Simpson and 23-year-old Heather Wilson, both from Louisville, Kentucky. A two-year-old child was also in the vehicle.
When officers took Simpson into custody, they found Wilson to be under the influence of alcohol. She was detained and taken to the Starke County Jail. When she was searched, officers found that she was in the possession of a controlled substance.
Simpson is being held in the Starke County Jail for Jefferson County, Kentucky authorities. Wilson has been charged with Neglect of a Dependent and Possession of a Controlled Substance, both Class D Felonies and Public Intoxication, a Class B Misdemeanor. Wilson is being held under a $15,000 surety bond.
The two-year-old was taken from the scene by Child Protective Services and was placed in foster care.
