It was on this date that the Medaryville Correctional Facility closed. The facility was located just inside Jasper County at the Jasper-Pulaski State Fish and Wildlife area.

The facility was opened in 1961 and closed the doors on September 1st, 2007.

It was said at the time that continuing operations of the facility was not cost effective or efficient in the long term. The Medaryville Correctional Facility employed 32 people. At the beginning of 2007, there were approximately 150 inmates at the center. They were moved to other state facilities by the end of August of the year.
