Knox Community School Superintendent A.J. Gappa gave the School Board a facility study update this week.
“Our Board has been investigating work that needs to be done at the Elementary School. I’ve been meeting with the staff members at the Elementary School by grade level and offering them the same mini tour and showing them the inner workings of the building, similar to what the Board had seen during a mini retreat that they had and also what the public was shown last spring.”
The Palmer Wing is nearing 60 years old and the Board is trying to decide whether to remodel that portion of the school or demolish and build new.
Superintendent Gappa was asked about the teacher’s reaction to the tour
“Many of the teachers, even though they teach in the building, had never really been through the whole building such as the boiler room, back in the tech department where all of the servers are located and even in the back part of the kitchen where all of the cooking is done for the Elementary School. It was kind of eye-opening for them too and I think the staff members who have seen it so far have been appreciative. We intend to have all of the staff members, who want to, go through the building to see what all is here.”
