The Winamac Town Board approved a salary ordinance for 2012.
Winamac Clerk-Treasurer Judy Heater told WKVI that the members decided that due to the rising cost of insurance, all employees would be paid the same salary as in 2011.
The Board also learned that a Purdue graduate who is from the area is planning to do something with the vacant lot at the corner of Washington Street and U.S. 35. The property was owned by the Galbreath family and once they closed the gas station at that location and removed the underground tanks they donated the land to the town. Fred Zarht from the Tree Committee said a plan is in the works to plant shrubs in that area, install a brick pathway and benches. Concrete will be removed for free and then the town will be leveling off the area and putting gravel there until a plan is approved for the area.
The town took the plan under advisement. No work will be done until the Spring.
