The Town of Winamac’s 2021 budget was recently approved by the town council. The total budget adds up to more than $1.3 million. Just over $973,000 of that is the General Fund. More than $135,000 is budgeted for parks, and $65,000 is in the Motor Vehicle Highway Fund. Winamac’s 2021 budget now goes to the state for final approval.

It was previously explained that the ordinance includes a 50-cent increase for all hourly employees, as well as an incentive for street, water, or wastewater employees who earn certifications. It also outlines how town employees who serve on the fire department will be compensated for responding to calls during business hours.
The Culver Town Council members held the first reading of the 2019 salary ordinance Tuesday night.
Pulaski County’s salary matrix will continue to be discussed during tonight’s county council meeting. A salary ordinance revision will be up for the council’s approval, while Maintenance Supervisor Jeff Johnston is expected to request a budget transfer and additional appropriation to help cover the wages of part-time employees.
Confusion about checks paid to two Pulaski County Highway Department employees led to a heated debate during last week’s county council meeting. The first had to do with $2,500 paid to Secretary Jessica Rausch for her duties as asset management coordinator. Last month, council members agreed to transfer that amount into the department’s asset management services line item. Auditor Laura Wheeler then apparently paid the money to Rausch as part of her paycheck. She asked council members last week to adjust the salary ordinance accordingly.

A proposed change was made where the EMS Vice Director position would be eliminated and replaced with a full-time ALS-EMT2 position with an hourly range of $11.75-$17.50.
The Culver Town Council members will meet in regular session tonight.
The council members will act on additional readings of the traffic ordinance and the salary ordinance.
The traffic ordinance designates a congested motor vehicle traffic and pedestrian area on Lakeshore Drive and signage will be placed between 508 Lakeshore east to 824 Lakeshore Drive. The ordinance also creates a no parking zone for 50 feet from the intersection on both sides of the street on Batabano and South Plymouth Street.
The Culver Town Council approved an ordinance amendment that increases the hourly wage for a new advanced paramedic to a range from $10.00 to $15.50 an hour beginning Nov. 1.
EMS Director Kathy Hart thanked the council and noted that the increase will help attract advanced paramedics to the department. She said several applicants have turned away from the position after learning that the wages aren’t comparable to other area departments. This will allow Culver EMS to be more competitive when seeking applications. Continue reading
