The Starke County Sheriff’s Department told WKVI that a Norfolk Southern service truck was performing maintenance on the tracks when a train rolled through town. The conductor reportedly thought the service truck was out of his way but miscalculated, striking the service truck.
Fortunately, the railroad employee was not on the service truck at the time of the crash, and no injuries have been reported.
The Sheriff’s Department says the tracks are closed on U.S. 35, but drivers can get across the tracks by way of Williams Street east of U.S. 35 on State Road 8, or via County Road 300 East near the Industrial Park.
