Operation Stand Down, a free dental screening opportunity for qualifying area veterans, will be held at the IU Health La Porte Dental Center on Nov. 10 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. CT. This is a chance for local veterans with no dental insurance or no dentist to get a free dental screening.
The screening will include an oral exam and x-ray. No further procedures will be performed on site. However, if a follow-up procedure is necessary, veterans will be referred to a La Porte County dentist. There will still be no charge for the follow-up.
Participating dentists include Drs. Daniel Fridh, Greg Benson, Robert Grace, David Porter, and Ben Porter. Dr. Fridh suggested this idea after working with the Indiana Dental Association. Other states have done this so he thought it would be a good idea.
Discharge papers and driver’s licenses will be asked for at the screening. Those wishing to schedule ahead of time can do so by calling the IU Health La Porte Dental Center at (219) 326-1943.
