LaPorte Man Killed in Toll Road Accident

Kimbrugh's vehicle hit the back of this truck killing Daniel Miller of LaPorte

A LaPorte man was killed after being hit by a vehicle on the Toll Road.

The Toll Road dispatch center received a call about an erratic driver and shortly after that call was made, another came in about the same vehicle that just hit the back of a maintenance pick-up truck.

A worker for LaPorte District Maintenance Area 2, 52-year-old Daniel J. Miller of LaPorte, just exited the pick-up to retrieve trimming equipment from the back of the vehicle when a passenger car driven by 78-year-old Paul A. Kimbrugh of Coldwater, Michigan slammed into Miller and back of the maintenance truck.

Miller was pronounced dead at the scene and the driver of the maintenance truck, Kevin Standefer, also of LaPorte, was transported to Saint Anthony’s Hospital in Michigan City with non-life threatening injuries. Kimbrugh was airlifted from the scene and later died of his injuries.

The pick-up had warning lights and a lit arrow board activated on it and there was signage warning drivers of work being done on the side of the Toll Road.
