The Starke County Relay for Life fundraiser held at the Haunted Cornmaze in Knox this weekend was quite the success, according to Demotte State Bank Team Leader Candice Miller. She explained that the team raised $285 for Relay, including one $50 donation from a Walkerton resident.
Miller said the cornmaze was very well-attended and went great. The Fisher family agreed to let Relay sponsor the event for two of its three days in operation. Miller said she even attended the event and traveled through the maze, and admitted it was pretty terrifying.
This was Demotte’s first individual fundraiser, and Miller thanked everyone involved, including the volunteers that helped with the maze.
Miller explained that her team had asked the Fishers to allow them to sponsor the event for one night, but they were generous enough to let them sponsor it for two. On Oct. 26 and 28, Starke County Relay for Life received $1 of each redeemed ticket. The cost of entry to the Haunted Cornmaze was $5 a person.
Last year, Demotte’s team started late and was unable to hold as many fundraisers as they would have liked. So, this year, Miller said they plan to make up for lost time. She said a number of fundraisers are in the works, including a Miss Relay Pageant, a Give Back Night at Mexico Lindo in Knox, and various other in-house fundraisers. These events are all in the preliminary planning stages, however, and they are not yet sure of the dates.
