Veteran’s Day is Sunday, Nov. 11 and several schools and community organizations are planning events surrounding the observance of the national holiday to honor those who have served in all branches of the military.
The third annual Starke County Veterans Parade will be Sunday, Nov. 11 at 12:30 p.m. and will begin at the intersection of Redskin Trail and Main Street and continue down Main Street to the Starke County Courthouse. A ceremony will be held in front of the War Memorials where Somalia War Zone veteran and Knox High School Teacher Travis Flora will speak.
Friday, Nov. 9th, the Oregon-Davis Food/Chem and American Studies classes will be hosting a Veteran’s Day Program in the Oregon-Davis High School Gymnasium. The program will run from
9:40 to 10:30 CT. Breakfast will be served from 8 to 9:30 a.m. for veterans and their immediate families. This is a community program.
West Central School Superintendent Charles Mellon discusses his school’s programs.
“The high school is planning the Veteran’s Day for Friday, Nov. 9 at 11 a.m. ET,” said Mellon. “We have community members that come in and share in that activity.”
Knox Community School Superintendent A.J. Gappa said the corporation will conduct services on Monday, Nov. 12. The high school program is at 9 a.m., the middle school at 10:30 a.m. and the fifth grade music program at 6 p.m. Tim Watts, who recently returned home from a tour of duty in Afghanistan, will be speaking at the middle school and high school programs.
