Memorial Day Click It or Ticket Campaign Begins Tomorrow

Memorial Day is coming up, and the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department is stepping up efforts to enforce seat belt laws. Marshall County police are urging everyone to buckle up as they begin their 2013 Click It or Ticket seat belt enforcement campaign on Friday.

This nationwide effort is supported by thousands of law enforcement agencies and traffic safety organizations across the country. More than 250 law enforcement agencies in Indiana alone will be conducting special patrols as they cite unrestrained motorists through June 2.

In 2012, during the Click It or Ticket mobilization May 18–June 3, law enforcement agencies who participated in the event issued more than 18,000 citations to unrestrained drivers. During that time period, 170 collisions were reported and 12 fatalities investigated on Indiana roadways that involved unrestrained motorists. A total of 91 people were ejected from their vehicles due to not being buckled up when the accident occurred.

On Memorial Day weekend alone in 2012, 41 collisions took place, causing two fatalities of those who were not restrained on Indiana roads. Among those 41 collisions, 30 ejections occurred due to the non-use of restraints.
