This year’s keynote speaker is the superintendent of the Indiana State Police, Doug Carter. Carter was raised in LaPorte and graduated from LaPorte High School in 1980. He served 18 years with the Indiana State Police prior to being elected Sheriff of Hamilton County where he served two terms.
The Peace Officer Memorial honors fallen officers, both local and nationally, who have given their lives protecting their communities.
As part of the service, students from New Prairie High School will present a plaque that honors LaPorte County law enforcement officers who were killed in the line of duty. The plaque will be dedicated and placed in the LaPorte County Complex near the Neil Thompson Memorial.
