The Starke County Relay for Life is this Friday and Saturday at the Starke County Fairgrounds in Hamlet. Opening ceremonies are at 6 p.m., the luminaria ceremony is around 9:30 p.m. Friday night and several fundraisers are planned throughout the event. Several teams have signed up to help in the fight against cancer.
Walkers will be making laps around the track for approximately 12 hours with one member of every team on the track at all times. Different activities are planned for every hour of the event.
In recognition of the Starke County Relay for Life, Knox Mayor Rick Chambers signed a proclamation Monday afternoon that shows the city’s support of the effort to help in the fight against cancer.
“The proclamation states that the Relay for Life is a signature activity of the American Cancer Society and celebrates cancer survivors and caregivers,” stated Chambers. “Also, remembering those lost to the disease and empowers individuals and communities to fight back against cancer.”
Watch for businesses around the county who have decorated their store fronts in purple to win bragging rights for the best decorated business.
