Plymouth Airport 5-Year Plan Presented to Marshall Co. Commissioners

Dave Lattimer from the Plymouth Aviation Commission and the Plymouth Airport presented the Marshall County Commissioners with the airports five-year plan Monday morning.

The weather station has been an ongoing issue. The board members would like to set up a weather station so weather conditions can be obtained that pertain specifically to the Plymouth area. Current conditions are reported from the South Bend area, Goshen, Rochester and Starke County but Lattimer suggested that one should be located in Plymouth.

They are trying to attract more activity at the airport so they have a better ratio rating for getting the necessary grant funding for a weather station.

The Plymouth Aviation Commission is also looking to expand their runway in 2014. The runway is currently 4700 feet by 60 feet and they’re looking to expand it to 5000 feet by 75 feet which would accommodate larger aircraft. That project would include milling, excavating and paving. A grant is being sought for this upgrade.

Discussion on moving the entrance further north has also been tossed around, but that has yet to be settled.

The commissioners commended the staff for their hard work.
