Koontz Lake Fire Chief Andy Lawrence told WKVI that the incident occurred Tuesday night where a fire was reportedly intentionally set at a food booth and the announcer’s booth. The food booth was completely destroyed and the announcer’s booth sustained extensive damage.
Lawrence added that the a representative from the Indiana State Fire Marshal’s Office found evidence that it was arson and more evidence is being collected to determine suspects in the case.
The Starke County Sheriff’s Department is also investigating this case as the suspect(s) reportedly extensively vandalized the arena right off of U.S. 30 and County Road 1100 East.
The Koontz Lake Fire Department, Hamlet Fire Department and the Walkerton Fire Department worked together to put out the blaze. The incident remains under investigation.
