A question and answer and autograph session featuring three-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Champion Tony Stewart scheduled for Aug. 15 at the Newton Center in Lakeville remains on hold.
Officials say he has undergone surgery after a sprint car accident at Southern Iowa Speedway in Oskaloosa, Iowa on Monday night. He suffered two broken bones in his right leg as a result of the accident where he struck a spun lapped car that sent his sprint car tumbling. It is not known how Stewart’s health will be by Aug. 15, but Stewart is very loyal in keeping his appointments, especially to the Newton Center.
Stewart was to race in the inaugural Bob Newton Hoosier Tire Classic on Aug. 17 at Plymouth Speedway, but he will not be a competitor that night. The Sprints on Dirt series will race on Aug. 17, along with the UMP Modifieds, USAC 600 Winged Sprints and USAC 600 Restricted Winged Sprints.
Officials will keep WKVI informed on his scheduled appearances in northern Indiana.
