The West Central School Board approved the replacement of two new dishwashers during their meeting on Thursday night.
Superintendent Charles Mellon said the appliances served the purpose for the school corporation for quite some time.
“The one at the high school was the original unit so it had been washing dishes since 1969,” said Mellon. “The other one was the original in the elementary school since 1982.”
Mellon said it was getting to the point where replacement parts were hard to come by so the board approved the idea of replacing the units. Mellon added that they will get some help in the cost with a state program.
“We are also looking to utilize Energize Indiana to defray a little bit of that cost because we’re sure that new units will be much more economical for us to operate.”
The quest to purchase new dishwashers began this summer and quotes were finally reviewed and one approved Thursday night.
Mellon indicated that the new dishwashers will be installed during the Christmas break.
