The grand opening of the new wing at the Starke County Public Library is scheduled for tomorrow, but that doesn’t mean all the heavy lifting is out of the way. Library Director Sheila Urwiler said there is still a lot of remodeling left to do before their grand opening ceremony, which will include a ribbon cutting at noon and activities for kids, as well as entertainment by the Knox Jazz Band and the Showstoppers.
Despite the work that still lies ahead, Urwiler said she’s excited about the opening day and hopes for a terrific turnout.
“It’s wonderful. We still have a lot of work to do with the remodel but it’s so nice to have the new children’s area and the YA area open and being used. They just look wonderful. We hope everybody can come out to the grand opening party to see it and enjoy all the festivities,” Urwiler said.
There will also be face painting, Twist-and-Smile Balloons, and an ugly holiday sweater contest. The grand opening is scheduled from noon to 4 p.m.
The $1.785 million project added 4000 square feet to the northwest part of the building to allow for a new children’s wing with more controlled access and better sound protection. The added space has also provided more room for computers and set aside a young adult section.
