Oregon-Davis School Superintendent Greg Briles indicated that the start of 2014 has been a little hectic with the weather, but it’s been productive for the students and staff as they settle into the second semester.
The school board met in special session Monday afternoon to reorganize for the new year. Briles said there were no changes made in the makeup of the board.
“Our board president for 2014 is Chris Lawrence, our vice president will be Andrea McIntosh and our secretary will be Kurt Hayes,” said Briles.
The new school security officers are in place at the schools and Briles said the officers’ presence has been a great asset to the corporation.
“Officer Lonigro was on hand the first few days last week. It was a shortened week, but he was here both days and Officer Hinds is here this week at the beginning and Mr. Lonigro will end the week. They’re on a little bit of a rotation. They’re doing a great job! The kids are recognizing them and we’re very excited about them being a part of the Oregon-Davis schools.”
Officers Frank Lonigro and Kyle Hinds are sworn officers of the Hamlet Police Department and work at the Oregon-Davis schools when they’re not on duty at the department. They were put into the position at the schools as part of a Secured School Safety Grant awarded to the school corporation by the state late last year.
