Knox Community Elementary School third graders are Wild about Reading! This year a competitive reading initiative called Battle of the Books premiered that challenged students to read in order to win.
The program ran year-long and required kids to read anywhere from 6 to 12 different books from an official reading list. Children involved acquired the desire to read as well as developed essential team-work skills.
During the battle students were quizzed about a variety of books and would score points for the correct title and extra points for recalling the author. The winning team demonstrated their knowledge during Monday evening’s Knox Community School Board meeting by answering a few questions on the spot. This was the first year of Battle of the Books and due to the abundance of excitement from both students and faculty involved the program will continue to run in years to come.
