Local Schools Awarded Money through Secured School Safety Grant Program

 More than $9 million was approved in grant funding for several local schools through the Secured School Safety Grant Program.

The program gives matching grants to school corporations that request funding to conduct a threat assessment, purchase equipment to restrict access to the school or expedite the notification of first responders, or employ a school resource officer.

School corporations, charter schools or coalitions with an average daily membership (ADM) of at least 1,000 students applied for grants up to $50,000 and eligible entries with an ADM of less than 1,000 students applied for grants up to $35,000.

The Knox Community School Corporation was awarded $30,752.60 for equipment; Oregon-Davis School Corporation was awarded $32,000 to employ an officer; Eastern Pulaski School Corporation was granted $17,302.43 to conduct a threat assessment and for equipment; Plymouth Community School Corporation was granted $35,000 to employ and officer and for equipment; John Glenn School Corporation was awarded $27,000 to employ an officer and for equipment; and South Central Community School Corporation was awarded $18,000 to employ an officer and for equipment.
