Starke County 4-H Fair Begins Today

 
 

It’s finally here! The Starke County 4-H starts today and there’s an array of activities for people of all ages to engage in! The opening ceremonies are at 6:15 p.m in the show arena. There is, of course, the rides and fair food booths. If you’re the adventurous type, you can attempt the mechanical bull ride. Be sure to make the deadline for the pig scramble if you wish to participate in that. If you’re looking to chow down, there will be an open class bake sale as well as a doughnut eating contest tonight. At 8 p.m. The WKVIdol contest begins in the show arena with Mary Perren, Nathan Welter and Craig Phipps judging the local talent.

On Tuesday the Starke County Beef Breeders will be serving rib eye sandwiches in the 4-H food pavilion. At 4 p.m. there is an antique tractor pull at the pulling track near the horse arena. Be sure to register for the National Pedal Pullers and Racers because at 6 p.m. the pull will be at the asphalt pad north of the food court. The family nutrition program is putting on happy birthday party in the open class buliding. To end the evening there will be Karaoke on the patio by the Lions Club building.

The fun continues Wednesday with the annual healthy baby contest. The 4-H Jr. Leaders will have a pork booth open. There will be an REMC demonstration. At 7 p.m. the Monday Night Pickers will be on the the porch by the Lions Club building.

On Thursday there is an antique tractor show sponsored by the Starke County chapter of Future Farmers of America. St. Mathew’s Church is sponsoring a corn hole contest. Registration for the contest is at 5 p.m in the area north of the food court. There is a $20 charge per team. The contest commences at 6 p.m. Farm Bureau Incorporated is sponsoring a redneck truck show at the pull track. The trophies and awards program will be at 7 p.m in the show arena.

Friday has a variety of fun times to be had. There is the open class Bake-A-Rama as well as the Battle of the Barns. Both of these events require registration. The Bake-a-Rama registration is in the open class building. You can sign up for battle of the barns in the fair office. Calamity Clown will be at the fair on this day doing face painting and making balloon animals by the 4-H food pavilion

Saturday 4-H members can remove animals and clean up pens but that doesn’t mean the fair is over just yet. There is a garden tractor pull on this day as well as a 4-H rocket launch. The rocket launch will be at the county airport. Saturday is also Kid’s Day with fun games . Registration for Kid’s Day is at 10 a.m in the show arena and it commences at 11 a.m.
