Knox Planning Commission members voted to hold a public hearing over a rezoning request on 250 E. when they met Tuesday evening.
Commission President Jim Strong reminded members that REMC is interested in installing a substation near the corner of 50 S. and 250 E. In order to do so, the company has to have a special use permit granted and the area would need to be rezoned from general commercial to heavy industrial.

Could the sale of the SYSCO property in Hamlet happen in 2018? Starke County Economic Development Foundation Director Charlie Weaver told the county council members this week that he’s working with two prospects to purchase land at the site.
Kankakee Valley REMC is officially using its solar park following a recent ribbon cutting.
The project has been ongoing for several months, installing 432 solar panels at the cooperative’s headquarters in Wanatah. According to a press release, the ribbon cutting was to celebrate the site being operational, but also for the energy now being put back onto the grid.
A Starke County resident has been re-elected to the board of the Kankakee Valley REMC.
The organization is an electric service provider for rural areas of Indiana and is part of a nationwide alliance of utility service providers.
