Power is still out this morning across much of the Kankakee Valley after two lines of strong storms tore through the area last night. NIPSCO and Kanakee Valley REMC crews are working as fast as they can to restore power to affected areas. About 3,800 REMC customers in Starke, Pulaski and Marshall Counties are in the dark. More than 86,000 NIPSCO customers across the northern Indiana are without power as well.
No injuries were reported in Starke or Pulaski Counties as a result of the storms. However numerous trees are down across the area. Crews are working as fast as they can to clear them, but after a storm of this magnitude it is going to take time. We will bring you updates as we get information from verified sources. Meanwhile, treat intersections with non-working traffic lights like they are four-way stops.
