The Davis Township Building Corporation will meet this evening in Hamlet to consider the next steps with regard to building a new fire station and community center there. The meeting starts at 6 p.m. CDT at the current fire station on Pearl Street. The advance agenda shared with WKVI News indicates members will consider the process for approval to issue bonds for the project. They will also award a construction contract subject to completion of financing.
Building corporation members were scheduled to meet last Monday to open bids for the 9,300 square foot structure but extended the deadline by a week. The new building will be located east of the Starke County Fairgrounds on Indiana Avenue. It will include four drive-through bays for fire trucks, office space for the Davis Township Trustee and Hamlet Fire Chief, restrooms, a kitchen and a community room that’s between 1,700 and 1,800 square feet. Plans call for a metal roof and siding with an option for a partial brick exterior. Part of the parking lot will be asphalt with some gravel surface.
The project has been broken up to allow local contractors to bid on things like the electrical work, HVAC, plumbing and concrete.
