Motorists who use State Road 8 to travel west of Knox may want to find a new route for the next few weeks due to continued work to rebuild the intersection with Starke County Road 300 East. Starting Wednesday, traffic on the highway will be reduced to one lane with flagmen so the edge of the highway can be saw cut and removed to begin preparation for paving.
The engineer in charge of the project advises WKVI news aggregate base will be installed on 300 East and along State Road 8 on Thursday. Base and surface paving is scheduled next week. Guardrail, pavement markings and sign installation is slated to start on Monday, Oct. 13 and wrap up on Saturday, Oct. 18.
State Road 8 will not be closed at any time. However traffic patterns and flow may be disrupted, and delays are possible. County Road 300 East will also remain open during the next phase of work, but lane restrictions will be in place. The project is slated for completion in November. The intersection is being rebuilt in order to provide easier access to the Knox Industrial Park.
